According to Greek mythology, as Herodotus mentions, two black pigeons began from Thebes of Egypt. One went to Libya where the sanctuary of Ammon Zeus was built and the second landed on an oak tree in ancient Dodoni in Epirus, where it was the oldest Greek oracle and this pigeon suggested the foundation of a sanctuary in honor of Zeus. People recieved the oracles from the ruin of the sacred tree of Zeus, the oak which existed in the center of the sanctuary. According to legend, Zeus was living in the roots of the tree and since he had grown up and raised with honey, Melissaus, the sacred oak and every oak tree began to produce the best honey with a rich antioxidant effect that gave strength and health to all the inhabitants of the wider region.
